Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating of the armpits and odor treatment

Sweating is a physical occurrence, which balances the body’s humidity, salt and heat in healthy people. Yet, excessive sweating in our modern times and foul odors are a serious handicap in social life, thus affecting the patients psychology as well. The sweat glands that work excessively at the armpits, and the formation of bacteria causes foul odors to form. The use of deodorants and perfume may tardy the formation of odors but cannot stop it. In the summer months, the sweating increases.

Temporary solutions

There are many medical treatments available. The most commonly used is Botox, which is a toxin. It’s function is to block the nerve ends reaching the sweat glands thus stopping sweating. As each application is between $ 500 to $ 700, it is a costly temporary solution that needs to be repeated every 4 to 6 months.

Traditional methods

One of the traditional methods is to open the chest cavity and to cut the nerve ends or the removal of the sweat glands. This method is an important surgical procedure where skin replacement is required, leaves permanent marks and is not preferred by surgeons or patients.

New methods

Currently, the most commonly used method is a procedure applied with local anesthesia where small incisions are made to the armpit and the sweat glands are removed. This method has been used since 5 to 6 years; it is a technically simple process and can be done in a clinic or hospital, where it takes up to 40 minutes.

Post procedure, there are extremely minimal marks and the patient can resume his or her daily life within 5 days. Excess sweating is reduced to a normal level. It is an out patient procedure and results are permanent.

Foul odor at armpits.

Sweating is a physical occurrence, which balances the bodies’ humidity, salt and heat in healthy people. Yet, excessive sweating in our modern times and foul odors are a serious handicap in social life, thus affecting the patients psychology as well. The sweat glands that work excessively at the armpits and the formation of bacteria causes foul odors to form. The use of deodorants and perfume can tardy the formation of odors but cannot stop it. In the summer months, the sweating increases.

Comparatively, men are prone to this problem more than women. When they enter indoors, the odor invades their surroundings and causes discomfort to those in the same environment. Deodorants are not capable of reducing extreme cases.

We must differentiate this order with normal body odor, as this is a different case and level of odor. At times, the persons are not aware of their situation, whereas the people around them try to stay away from this person. This obviously affects ones social and professional life negatively.

This odor is the secretion of the sweat glands, and can occur in both genders. Men may find excuses as “being a manly smell” but it is displeasing to those around them. Women try to minimize this with deodorants and perfumes as when it is applied; the odor is less prominent but becomes apparent in a few hours. In the summer months, the odor becomes unbearable with hear, and clothing is saturated to an uncontrollable level.

Temporary solutions

Frequent bathing, use of deodorants can reduce but can never fully eliminate armpit odors, and when unsuitable cosmetics are used, their fragrance blends with the odor and becomes even more unbearable.
